Perched in the Colorado Rockies at 8,400 feet, “Rawah” takes its name from the Ute Indian word for “abundance”. The idea of “abundance” is present in the rich diversity of our world class, Orvis Endorsed fly fishing along our private 2 miles of the Laramie River on the ranch, traveling horseback or hiking through the rugged untouched Rawah Wilderness with our professional guides, our abundant wildlife, excellent cuisine, wonderful accommodations; private cabins along our river and main lodge, and most important, our heartfelt experience and commitment to provide you and your family with a true Adventure and Wilderness experience that will become a family tradition for years to come.
We’re extremely proud of what ranch expert Eugene Kilgore has to say in his book as he summarizes his Rawah Guest Ranch Review:
“This ranch is one of the best! A terrific combination of riding, fly-fishing, hiking and Western hospitality.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need to know how to fly fish to come?
A: Absolutely not. Your all-inclusive price includes Orvis endorsed guides to help you with the simple process of waving a long stick around in a river.
Check out this page for an explanation of the cast.
Rawah isn’t just for fishing. Sure, I think you’ll be sorry if you don’t wet a line to feel the love of the tug at least one time, but rocking on the porch and reading a book while watching hummingbirds hum, riding horseback among the mountain trails, or soaking in a hot tub under a blanket of stars… not a bad way to spend a vacation.
Q: Who do I pay for my trip?
Our Hosts, Patrick and/or Melanie Timmins. Contact for more information:
Patrick or Melanie: 800.820.3152 or 970.435.5715 or email: rawahranch@aol.com
Q: How much cash do I need?
A: Everything is paid for when you book except tips if and when you find the care and guidance you receive, exceptional. You can also book a relaxing massage which would require an investment or we can put together a shopping trip to Steamboat – a beautiful drive.
Q: Is there wine, Cosmos, or other types of alcohol involved?
A: Alcohol is not included in the package price but it does tend to flow just before dinner at the most relaxing happy hour I've ever attended. Cute chef makes a yummy appetizer and I’ll poor the cocktail of the day until my bar runs dry. The Timmins’ supply a nice spread of mixers and I intend to bring your favorite spirit if you just let me know.
Q: How do I get there?
Located in Colorado, situated at the base on the Rawah Wilderness Area and Roosevelt National Forest about twenty miles (20) south of the Colorado/Wyoming border, Rawah Wilderness Ranch is easily accessible from Denver to the south, Fort Collins to the east, Steamboat Springs to the west, and Laramie and Cheyenne to the north. If you contact me in time you can reserve a seat in the “She Loves Fly Fishing” H2. http://rawahwildernessranch.com/location/
Q: Is there internet?
A: Yes. Not wicked fast but you can stay connected.
Q: How’s the food?
A: Rawah’s meals – cowboy-style with a flair – are served in the Lodge dining room. Since it’s all “Diva” for this trip, we get a special menu. “Really great food that won’t make you fat.” Prime aged steaks and marinated chicken grilled over aspen, plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, or if you prefer to seize the vacation by the chef you can also have home-baked breads and mouthwatering desserts. And just in case you’re still hungry, homemade straight-from-the-oven cookies and fresh fruit are always available. On a special diet? Don’t worry, there are no calories at this elevation!
Q: Does the lodge supply French milled soap and Aveda hair-care products?
A: The cabins are most comfortable. They supply basic shower essentials but I recommend you bring your favorite bath and body products.
Q: You promised a “cute” chef and real cowboys at the barn dance. Define cute and real?
A: It’s all relative but the chef has big brown eyes and rock-a-billy hair and the cowboys really do know horses and could keep you alive if you were stranded in the mountains. I will make no promises concerning their dancing abilities.

Any practice you can get in before the event will most certainly be helpful. A simple exercise; anchor your elbow comfortably by your waist, raise your dominant hand like you’re answering the telephone, pause long enough to say hello, then lower your arm with a slight flick-of-the-wrist and extend it like you’re shaking hands. Keep doing this until it feels comfortable and you’ve mostly mastered a cast.
Q: What if I really don’t want to invest much time in fly fishing?
